Meta has announced a major update for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, bringing new AI-powered features, gesture-based messaging, expanded navigation tools, and improved accessibility.
One of the standout additions is the ability to write and send messages using simple hand gestures through Meta's neural wristband technology. The feature allows users to interact with the smart glasses without touching their phone or using voice commands, creating a more seamless wearable experience.
The messaging feature will now work across several platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, as well as native Android and iOS messaging apps.
Meta is also introducing a new 'display recording' mode that combines the digital display seen through the glasses with real-world visuals and surrounding audio, allowing users to capture a more immersive perspective of their experiences.
In addition, walking directions are expanding across the United States and major international cities such as London, Paris, and Rome, making the smart glasses more useful for everyday travel and navigation.
The update also brings live captions to WhatsApp and Messenger calls, along with Instagram voice messages, improving accessibility and communication in noisy environments.
Meta has further opened the platform to developers through a preview program that allows creators to build apps and web-based experiences for the glasses, signaling the company's continued investment in AI-powered wearable technology.
The latest upgrades position Meta's smart glasses as more than just a connected accessory, moving them closer to becoming a fully interactive wearable computing platform.
